Students are educated in six specialties: Geological practice Geology studies the genesis and long-term geological development of our planet, its structure, composition and the patterns of deposits of various natural resources.

The complexity of the subject means there is considerable variety in the geological sciences.

  • To this aim, new curricular were developed to provide three levels of training;

These departments prepare highly qualified geologists and scholars in the specialties of paleontology and stratigraphy, structural analysis, geological surveying, prospecting, exploration and economic evaluation of mineral deposits. Geochemistry and mineralogy - the main branch studies the material composition of minerals, rocks, ores, other natural resources, soils and waters. It deals with raw materials and environmental pollution, problems of rational use of mineral resources, building materials and solid industrial waste.

Students become proficient in such disciplines as engineering and geological studies, particularly for the protection and restoration of historical and architectural monuments; geological and economic evaluation of reserves of potable water, technical and mineral groundwater; environmental impact assessment and environmental audit; environmental and economic analysis of mineral resources; and modern technologies in hydrogeology, including GIS-technology.

Training in geophysical research, the study of petrophysical parameters of rocks and mathematical processing of geological and geophysical data are performed in the Departments of Geophysics, Petroleum Geology and geoinformatics. Geophysical recording in The Carpathians Geophysics is one of the most fundamental sciences and uses remote sensing to study physical processes and phenomena in the Earth.

Science Degree Program in China - Geology

Geophysics provides fundamental exploration for oil and gas fields under the surface of the land, seas and oceans. Geophysical methods are widely used for solving problems of theoretical geology, ecology, and in the search fro groundwater. Geology of oil and gas deals with the forecasting, prospecting, exploration and geological background for the exploitation of oil and gas. In order to create complex geological models of industrial oil and gas fields, it is necessary to understand of conditions of formation of hydrocarbon traps collecting and processing geological and geophysical data by analytical studies using modern computer technology.

The development of these skills is a mandatory part of the preparation of future professionals in petroleum geology. Computer processing of data Geoinformatics prepares specialists in the use and development of computer programs and mathematical methods for the analysis of geological information; informational support of land use; production of digital maps, exploration planning, design of geographical information systems.


For training, the faculty focuses on modern trends in education. To this aim, new curricular were developed to provide three levels of training: Practical studies play an important role in training highly qualified specialists.

After the third and fourth year students have further practical traning in academic research institutes, and in companies involved in the geological industries.

Students who are fluent in a foreign language, are able to undergo practical training abroad. The faculty boasts a geological museum, one of the best in Ukraine, an Information Technology section and research laboratories.

  • Applicants must meet minimum education and experience requirements and earn a passing score on an exam;
  • How reasonable and effective use of the earth's resources, the maintenance of the environment of human survival, has become a common concern of today's world;

Students under the guidance of experienced teachers gain experience in solving of theoretical problems and practical issues of geological science, master different methods of investigation, and participate in the development of new equipment. Graduates of geological faculty are invited to work and to graduate school in academic institutes and institutions working in geological expeditions in the central and regional administration.
